Lloyd Neurostat SL 2000 – Cryoanalgesia System
Overview
The Lloyd Neurostat SL 2000, manufactured by Spembly Medical Ltd for Westco Medical Corporation, is a cryoanalgesia system used for pain management. It employs N₂O or CO₂ to freeze peripheral nerves, providing temporary or long-lasting relief for chronic pain.
Technical Specifications
* Cryoanalgesia console powered by battery and compressed N₂O/CO₂.
* Operating temperature: down to –60 °C at the probe tip.
* Flow rate: 8–10 L/min (adjustable).
* Equipped with footswitch, pressure gauges, and timer controls.
* Uses 18G Lloyd cryoprobes (e.g., Lloyd‑44/0174).
Usage Protocol
1. Prepare and disinfect the area using lidocaine (10 mg/mL + 5 µg/mL epinephrine).
2. Insert a 14G introducer needle to the target nerve under stimulation guidance.
3. Advance the 18G Lloyd cryoprobe; initiate freezing:
• Gas: N₂O at 8–10 L/min.
• Temperature: –60 °C.
• Freeze cycle: 90 seconds freeze, 30 seconds thaw, repeated 2–3 times.
4. Withdraw the probe gently after warming to minimize nerve trauma.
Safety Guidelines
* Always check for gas leaks and proper pressure connections.
* Follow recommended freeze/thaw cycles to avoid tissue damage.
* Handle probes with care to prevent contamination or mechanical damage.
* Inspect and service the unit regularly according to the manufacturer’s guidelin
